Academic advancement often plays a significant role in our personal and professional development, but this process can be quite daunting for many people. This is where academic coaching can be really helpful. Whether you’re trying to get through high school, taking on a short-course through your local community college or writing a PhD dissertation, a coach can help you to make the most of your experience and manage the challenges and stresses that make it harder.
In my practice, I work with my clients to mediate the emotional rigours of studying so that they can focus more of their energy on their work and make the most of their academic experience. My approach is holistic and person-centred which means that I assist clients to engage and get the most from all areas of their life.
If you work with me; we start with assessing where you’re at now and where you would like to be and what may be getting in the way. Then we look at how you can identify and maximise on your strengths and resources and find ways to expand your awareness and shift perspective so that you can move past some of your blocks and limitations and achieve to your highest academic potential.
I work with all academic levels from high school students to post-grads and I am especially interested in working with professionals who have embarked on a post-grad research degree. Writing a thesis is a massive undertaking. It is an incredibly brave thing to do and it will change your life. But, what you may not have realised is that it can also be one of the most lonely and stressful things you can do. What most people don’t realise is that a research degree is not necessarily academically difficult, but it can be incredibly emotionally taxing. You don’t need to be super-bright, but you do need to be resilient, persistent, resourceful and kind to yourself. This process is an opportunity to learn more about yourself and to grow emotionally as well as academically.
I provide holistic guidance about how to survive the emotional rigours of writing a thesis and I provide research-support coaching sessions. These sessions differ from the sessions that you will have with your supervisor in that my focus is on you and your well-being and how you can make the most of the process.
If you are in the process of writing a dissertation, you may find my ebook helpful.
